What is the MRZ on a passport?

The Machine-Readable Zone (MRZ) is the two or three lines of text at the bottom of a passport's data page. It encodes the holder's name, nationality, date of birth, document number, and expiry date in a format readable by optical scanners at border control.

Is my passport data uploaded anywhere?

No. All scanning is done entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No image or extracted data is sent to any server.

Which documents can be scanned?
